Making A difference one sample at a time
The club has an active volunteer group running regular river monitoring.
They perform twice a year river sampling coordinated by WildFish under the SmartRivers program. Every invertebrate in the sample is identified and counted (professionally) to give a year on year comparison of invertebrate and fly life health
The team also take monthly samples from May to August under the Nature River Fly partnership, with the aim of identifying acute incidents – nothing has been found to date. Recent investments by the club include purchasing a digital microscope which can be connected to an external monitor to make invertebrate identification faster and more reliable
