Wylye Fly Fishing Club

Fishing  for all Levels and Tastes of Angler

The Wylye Fly Fishing Club boasts pretty, historic waters in Wiltshire and Dorset.  It has twelve beats near Salisbury on the Wylye and Nadder, plus two beats near Dorchester on the Frome.  These give fishing from small and intimate, to wider and more open within just a few hundred yards.

Wylye Fly Fishing Club at a Glance

All our beats have healthy populations of wild Brown Trout and Grayling. The club trout record is over 4 lbs but this is exceptionally rare. It's far more typical to find hard fighting wild fish in the half to 1lb range with the occasional fish in the 2lb(+) range.  Grayling to over 50cm have been caught.

The club’s stocking policy is that we do stock fish at a pound or so, but this is done in moderation and our overall aim is to continue to grow the wild fish population.   All the wild fish have to be released and we run regular projects to make the habitat better for them.

Of course, size isn’t everything and it’s the environment that gives the anglers such pleasure and the fish their lovely condition. It is very varied, offering wilder waters along with the more manicured and accessible.

We have a steady membership, but each season we offer places to those on our healthy waiting list

Seven Beats on the Wylye, Five Beats on the Nadder and two on the Dorset Frome

We have some historic stretches of chalkstream. It’s not manicured or necessarily ‘easy’ water, but there’s great variety, a rich history and hopefully something for everyone.
