Wylye Fly Fishing Club

Fishing  for all Levels and Tastes of Angler

The Wylye Fly Fishing Club boasts pretty, historic waters in Wiltshire and has twelve beats near Salisbury on the Wylye and Nadder to give fishing from small and intimate, to wider and more open within just a few hundred yards.

Wylye Fly Fishing Club at a Glance

Plenty of two and three pounders of both Trout and Grayling turn up every season.  Club Coach and Committee member Matt Gregory recently caught two whopping 4lbs 14oz and speaks highly of the club’s stocking policy.

“We do stock fish at a pound or so, but this is done in moderation and our overall aim is  to keep the wild fish and make the environment better. All the wildies have to be released -  and these reach good sizes too.”

Of course, size isn’t everything and it’s the environment that gives the anglers such pleasure and the fish their lovely condition. It is  greatly varied, offering wilder waters along with the more manicured and accessible.

We have a steady membership but places are often available and we are particularly keen to welcome young anglers and families.

Conservation and the Environment

Working closely with the Environment Agency and groups such as Salmon and Trout Conservation, the Wylye anglers have been monitoring and working on habitat improvements, aided by  the Angling Trust’s Fisheries Improvement Program (FIP).
The club have been active members of the Wessex Chalk Stream Project. They’ve also reached out beyond the angling world to join forces with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.

Weed Planting on the Wylye

We  keep our membership fees very competitive by using part time keepers and using volunteers in the club who enjoy working on the river. The club are especially keen to find members who are prepared to roll their sleeves up and wade in !!

Environment

We monitor invertebrate numbers both monthly for the Riverfly Partnership and twice a year for the SmartRivers Project coordinated by Salmon & Trout Conservation

Protecting our waters with Wiltshire Wildlife

Nine Beats on the Wylye and Two Beats on the Nadder

We have some historic stretches of chalkstream. It’s not manicured or necessarily ‘easy’ water, but there’s great variety, a rich history and hopefully something for everyone.
